ABOUT

When the world gets too noisy and ugly, I watch and draw birds. — Amy Tan

Color is a power which directly influences the soul. — Wassily Kandinsky

I’m glad you’re here. My work is inspired by nature and color, often from my own backyard. Other favorite spots include the Kansas Flint Hills where I live and the South Louisiana bayous where I grew up. I’m drawn to diverse patterns and colors, especially in birds and flowers, which give me an excuse to slow down, observe, and take a respite from life’s busyness.

I create mixed media collage paintings using paper, ink, pencil, and paint. I reference photos I take because I love bringing the image to life. I’ve described hand-painting paper, tearing and adhering it, and applying other colors and textures with my fingers to a canvas as a tactile meditation of thanksgiving. I also enjoy painting portraits, adding pieces of the subject’s writings and other symbolic elements into the work. I discovered my fascination with mixed media when I used to make whimsical clocks.
