When the world gets too noisy and ugly, I watch and draw birds. — Amy Tan
Color is a power which directly influences the soul. — Wassily Kandinsk
I’m glad you’re here. My work is inspired by nature and color, often from my own backyard. Other favorite spots include the Flint Hills of Kansas where I live and the bayous of South Louisiana where I grew up. I’m drawn to diverse patterns and colors, particularly in birds and flowers, which offers an excuse to slow down and observe and take respite from life’s busyness. Making a piece based on one of my photographs feels like I’m bringing the image to life. And the process of using my hands to create with paper, ink, pencil, paint, and, at times, other media feels like a meditation of thanksgiving. I also enjoy painting portraits, adding pieces of the subject’s writings and other symbolic elements into the work. I began exploring mixed media when making whimsical clocks for fun; some have called me Clock Lady.
